The students who spoke mostly asked how they could make a difference. I stressed the importance of each of us making changes in our own lives, and the cumulative effect this could have on the world. I ended the talk using Margaret MeadÂ’s famous quote: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. Supplemented by this little ditty that so accurately captures my nights in Egypt so far: If you think the efforts of one individual will be nothing, then you have never been to bed with a mosquito.
